Frequently Asked Questions

How long does it take to process my order?

Some jobs we can do while you wait.   For others, it depends on the size of the job.  Usually it takes just a few days.  We will tell you when we expect to have your job completed and we give you a call as soon as it is done.  Rush service is available for an additional $10.

What type of media do you record to?

We record to CD, DVD-R, external hard drives, and thumb drives.
We use 100 year archival Taiyo Yuden premium line DVD-Rs.

Will a DVD-R play in my computer?

Yes, if your computer has a DVD drive designed to play video.

How much will my project cost?

Yes. In most cases we can tell you exactly the cost.  For other jobs, we will give you an estimate.  If we determine that the job will cost more than the estimate, we call before you incur any charge.

Do you keep a copy of my order in case I need another copy later?

You can request a copy of your job. Archived copies are $2.00 per DVD or CD.  We keep them on file in case you damage or lose your DVD or CD.

Video Tape Transfer

How many hours of video can go onto one DVD?

Four hours and four minutes of video will fit onto one DVD.  We start with the first tape and then keep adding tapes until the four hours is filled up.  At that point we start on the next DVD.

Can I edit my movies on my home computer once I transfer to DVD?

Not very easily.  There are programs that rip video from your dvd, but they don’t work very well.  If you want to put your video into your computer, we recommend having us transfer your material onto an external hard drive.

I’m not sure what is on my videos.  What if it’s blank or a tv show I don’t want?

If a tape is blank at the start, we fast forward to make sure nothing is on the tape later on.  I you give us a tape that starts off with a tv show, we will record to dvd in the event there is something you want recorded later on, unless you direct us otherwise.

Can you combine multiple video tapes onto one DVD?

Yes, we can combine multiple tapes onto one DVD and there is no difference in price for this service. However we don't usually recommend this practice for a few reasons. Remember that: a maximum of 2 hours will fit on one DVD, so if your tapes average one hour or more it would not be possible to combine. Also, if you don't know the exact timeline of your tapes, it is best not to combine tapes because it gets confusing when the material on one DVD skips around in years.

What types of video tapes can you transfer?

We can transfer VHS, VHS-C, Hi8, 8mm, Video8, Digital8, MiniDV, MiniDVD, MicroMV, and Betamax I, II, and III, ¾” U-Matic, and BetaCam formats.

Can you transfer PAL video tapes to DVD?

Yes, we can transfer PAL/SECAM VHS and VHS-C tapes to NTSC or PAL DVDs.

Film Transfer

Can I rent a projector to preview my movies before they are transferred?

You can rent a projector for $35.00.  This amount can be applied to your transfer.

How many feet of film can fit onto one DVD?

Regular  8 – 2400 ft.
Super 8- 3000 ft.

Can you add background music to my order?

Yes, we can add stock music or you can bring in a CD of your favorite music and we'll put that behind your video.

Can you transfer film with sound?

Yes.

How is my film cleaned?

We use a special anti-static cleaning solution to clean all film.  We splice together your 50 reels onto a 400’ reel.

How do I know how many feet of film I have?

A 3" diameter reel holds about 50 ft.
A 5" reel holds 200 ft.
 A 7" reel holds 400 ft.
If you have a box of film that reads 25 ft., it may actually contain 50ft. This type of film was recorded on 2 sides and then split during the processing.

What type of audio media can you transfer?

We can transfer 33s, 45s, 78s records, audio cassettes, microcassettes, 1/4 inch reel to reel recorded at 1 7/8 inches per second (IPS), 3 3/4 IPS, 7 1/2 IPS, 15 IPS, 30 IPS, and also audio from any of the video formats we transfer.  We can also record phone messages on answering machines onto CD.
